Q: What all does recruitment include?

A: PDC will host a total of four recruitment events during the first few weeks of each fall semester for the P1 class. All students who attend at least three of the four events will receive a bid.  These events are an opportunity for you to get to meet some of the active brothers and for us to meet you.  There is no commitment involved by attending and we encourage you to also attend Kappa Psi’s recruitment events in order to determine which fraternity is the best fit for you.  Bids will be extended out before class Friday September 22nd.  More information is available on the Recruitment page.

Q: How much time does member education require?

A: There is one 1-2 hour meeting a week, typically on Thursday evening. At these meetings, you will be learning about the Fraternity’s history, organization, and traditions both at the chapter and national levels. The brothers will coordinate with the P1 schedule to ensure that these meetings do not conflict with any exams or big projects.  There will also be several projects throughout the semester that you will be working on with your fellow candidates as well as individual efforts. PDC Candidates are encouraged to also spend time with each other outside of required meetings to further develop friendships and brotherhood.

Q: How long does the member education process last?

A: The member education process typically ends in the first week of January, taking a break before finals so that pledges are able to spend time studying.  As previously stated, we work around your schedule to ensure that school comes first and that the fraternity will not interfere with your academic, professional, and personal obligations.

Q: How much time do you spend a week doing PDC related activities?

A: Once you are a brother, our only requirement is that you attend a one-hour meeting every Monday during lunch where we discuss the current progress and upcoming events that the fraternity has planned.  Other than our weekly meetings, your time commitment is dependent on how much you want to get involved in the fraternity.

Q: How many brothers are there in the chapter?

A: We have 39 active collegiate brothers on campus (P2-P3) as well as 16 P4’s on rotation. Additionally we have recently graduated brothers completing residencies around the city and our collegiate brothers at Duquesne.  Our brothers range in age from 20 years old to 26 years old, so you are never too old to join.

Q: What are the advantages of joining PDC?

A: Our PDC chapter is professional pharmacy chapter with a very diverse group of people. We have a national PDC philanthropy with St. Jude Children’s Hospital. We are strictly pharmacy students with no undergraduate members. As we are students first, we encourage the act of helping each other study and prepare for exams. We have low dues and enjoy spending time doing many different types of activities from professional lectures, to charity walks, to social events with the all-female pharmacy sorority Lambda Kappa Sigma. One of the major advantages of joining PDC is the opportunity to network with other brothers across the country, both collegiate and alumni.

Q: Will I be hazed?

A: No, it is our national policy that we do not haze and we also operate under accordance with Pitt’s hazing policy as well.  As a pledge you will NEVER be pressured to do anything that you would not want to do or participate in any other act of hazing.  We are a professional pharmacy fraternity and not an undergraduate social fraternity and our pledging process is reflective of this.

Q: Is this an undergraduate social fraternity?

A: No, it is a professional pharmacy fraternity but we do have social events.

Q: What if I was in a social sorority/fraternity in undergrad? Can I still join?

A: Yes. However, you cannot join if you are a member of any other professional pharmacy fraternity like Kappa Psi.
