To empower its members to serve society by using sound medication management principles and strategies to improve health care for all.
The Academy of Managed Care Pharmacy is the national professional association of pharmacists and other healthcare practitioners who serve society by the application of sound medication management principles and strategies to improve healthcare for all. The Academy’s 5,700 members develop and provide a diversified range of clinical, educational, and business management services and strategies on behalf of the more than 200 million Americans covered by a managed care pharmacy benefit.
On the chapter level, we serve as an outlet for those students who are interested in a career in managed care pharmacy. Meetings will be held roughly once a month and will focus on a topic in managed care. Past speakers have come from UPMC HealthPlan, Walgreen’s Specialty Pharmacy, CVS Caremark, Accredo, Gateway Health, and Highmark.
This past year, 4 students attended the 2016 AMCP annual conference in San Francisco on April 19th-22nd. We were pleased to have Dylan Atkinson and Carley Mingone represent Pitt at the Chapter Leadership Academy while attending the conference. We also had a large Pitt presence at the 2015 AMCP Nexus Conference in Orlando, Florida!
Our annual Pharmacy and Therapeutics (P&T) Competition will be held during the Spring 2017 semester. The P&T competition is our largest chapter event. Students work in teams of 4 and analyze a new drug entering the market. The ultimate goal is to provide evidence to a committee of judges in order to support or decline the addition of the drug to a mock formulary. Chapter winners will submit their materials and may qualify to compete on the national level at the AMCP annual meeting.
