SNPhA is an educational service association of students who are concerned about pharmacy and health care related issues, the welfare of this nation’s underserved populations, and the poor minority representation in pharmacy and other health-related professions.
The purpose of SNPhA is to plan, organize, coordinate and execute programs geared toward the improvement for the health, educational, and social environment of the community.
SNPhA strives to foster an environment to accomplish the following goals:
1. To offer student members the opportunity to develop leadership and professional skill.
2. To educate students about and promote active participation in national health care issues.
3. To develop the role of the minority health professional as a vital member of the health care team.
4. To develop within communities a positive image of minority health professionals.
5. To educate communities on better health practices and to increase their awareness and understanding of diseases
Pitt’s chapter of SNPhA was reinstated in the fall of 2004 by Stephanie Spence and Kamile Whiters. Since then, SNPhA has been working to develop its initiatives, build membership, and make valuable contacts so that the organization will thrive for many years to come. With the help of Dr. Randy Smith and under the guidance of the national executive board, SNPhA has attended three conferences and gone on to win awards and recognition in the process. In the approaching year, SNPhA will be collaborating with various student organizations to achieve their goals and SNPhA’s goals as well.
